Research interests
Professor Ian Morison has an active research programme in epigenetics. It includes several projects designed to determine the effect of the environment on epigenetic programming during development. These include the epigenetic effects of in vitro fertilisation, epigenetics of the placenta, and the effects of nutrients on adult methylation. In addition he maintains the Catalogue of Parent of Origin Effects, a comprehensive online database of imprinted genes. Developmental epigenetics must have mechanisms in common with epigenetics of cancer, an area in which Ian has many years of experience with epigenetics especially for childhood leukaemia and Wilms tumours.
